BF(G) News Welcome to the LEC News Page!
Change in Dependant Employee Notice Periods The Dependant employee notice period was increased from 4 to 8 weeks with effect from 12th September. Very strict recruiting restrictions have been imposed on the employment of LEC's (DEL & DEP) in Germany and each time an employee leaves, authority to recruit must be sought.
The restrictions are such that each and every case requires very careful scrutiny at a very high management level. This can take time. Because of the recruiting restrictions the GLSU’s have had difficulty in meeting deadlines for filling posts. Consequently units have had to do without urgently needed staff whilst waiting for authorities. This in turn has meant greater pressure on the remaining employees. The service provided to the customers is also bound to suffer in such circumstances.

By increasing the notice period from 4 to 8 weeks, more time will be available to allow for the recruiting authorities to be processed, thus making it more likely that the new post holder can start without a gap. Clearly such changes take time to settle in and although the notice period was changed quickly the GLSU’s will take a transitional approach when terminations are received in cases where the notice period has not been adhered to.

In addition to the transitional approach mentioned above, Standing Instruction Paragraph 3.019 also contains sub-paragraphs which state several exceptions to the notice period. The first Sub-Paragraph states that the Line Manager can agree to a shorter notice period. In cases where a short notice posting occurs the GLSU will also waiver the notice period as required. This is already the practice and will not change. Click Here to see more information on Notice Periods in our Fast Find facility. The Standing Instruction document itself will be amended in due course.

The enhanced notice period will also work in an employees favour in that the GLSU will also be required to give a minimum of 8 weeks notice when terminating a contract.

Visit our Vetting & CRB pages

Security Vetting clearance is required for those working in military establishments and Criminal Records Bureau checks must be carried out on those working with children or vulnerable adults. This inevitably means gathering information and filling in forms. This can be frustrating and time consuming. Our new Vetting & CRB pages will hopefully give you an idea as to why the process needs to be carried out, what information you will need and which forms are required for the different clearance categories.

On viewing our various vacancy pages you will find an entry that tells you the level of clearance required. You can then click on the Vetting and CRB pages to see which forms are needed. You can even download the forms at home to complete them. You MUST however hand them in personally. They cannot be emailed or posted to the recruiting office.
